  I am a very regular customer, but most likely not for any longer. Recently I have popped into the St Peter’s M&S to do a weekly shopping at around 4-5pm. The queue's were very long, reaching the frozen section and only two tills were opened. When I decided to approach a very exhausted looking checkout lady, I asked her if she could ring the bell for someone to open another till and she politely told me that she cannot do anything at the moment because they are short staffed. There was a total of 3 maybe 4 staff on the whole shop floor, 2 people at the tills, one lady unloading the goods into shelves and assisting customers, and one lady who I’m assuming was a duty manager as I recognised her face from the poster they have on the wall near the tills of who the duty managers and store manager are. This is a very unprofessional system, a shop that hasn’t got enough staff and has 4 people on the shop floor shouldn’t be opened, or if needed the store manager should be there instead to help. However, the store manager is nowhere to be seen.

  Sadly I was on the receiving end of a very rude assistant at the till that decided to completely stop serving to chat - she was laughing loudly and the queue was now mounting up and she acted oblivious. When it was my turn to get served she stopped again to chat to a colleague with arms folded. I politely mentioned I was in a rush to get to work and when I paid she just stared at me & didn’t say Thankyou as I did to her when I was leaving. I then heard her call me ‘rude’ to another customer - which was completely untrue and not the customer service that I would expect. I did report it to the manager as she embarrassed me and the other customer by her rude unnecessary and untrue comment.

  I popped into M&S, St.Peter's this afternoon. The trolley checkouts were busy and so went with my basket, containing one item to the basket check out. A lady with a trolley full of a week's shopping, quickly inserted herself in front of me with intent and purpose, as other one basket customers queued behind me. I politely asked the young check out assistant if this small basket counter was also for full trolleys. He didn't answer at first; I pressed him again and he didn't comment and merely shrugged his shoulders. The trolley lady turned to me and correctly said that there were no signs up as basket only. As she had a large trolley to empty taking some time and as I only had one item to pay for, I asked her if I could pay for my item first. She replied no and that she was in a hurry. She then commenced unloading her trolley contents into the single basket in the basket niche. As she unloaded each item into the basket, the checkout assistant compliantly removed it and scanned it, leaving me without any support. After she'd left, I asked to see the Manager. I was pointed in a vague direction to an assistant manager. He was not of much help either.I think it was basically, he didn't want to be involved, but that is part of his job, surely! I'm a longstanding M&S account holder and not afraid of standing up to people, who abuse the speedy one basket counter.But I wish to point out that I received absolutely no support from M&S staff. M&S food stores all over the British Isles have one basket counters for good reason. Either reinstate the basket only sign on the speedy basket checkout or I'm going to shop elsewhere....

  While waiting in a queue I was impressed by a very smiley lady so refreshing to see this and she was so nice I had to go and ask her name it was Mary she is a credit to Mark's and Spencers she really cheered me up on a not so nice day. A varied selection of chilled food, wines, bread tinned veggies also jars of pickles. Look out for special offers on chilled takeaways.😻

  Best M and S on the island. Large selection of goods perfect for the weekly shop. Service is okay but to be expected in Jersey. Has a large amount of car parking space and a place to refuel your car as well as being very nearby to a Boots pharmacy. Its well layed out with vegetables to the far left and alcohol and pastries to the far right with a variety of baked goods too.
